How to Calculate Official Shipping Costs from China to Vietnam
The cost of transporting goods from China to Vietnam through official import channels is always a top concern for businesses and individual traders. A clear and transparent calculation method helps you easily control your budget, avoid hidden costs, and optimize profits. In this article, Viet Trung Company will explain each cost component in detail when shipping goods officially from China, along with real price tables and the most transparent, easy-to-understand calculation guide for all businesses and traders.
1. Why You Should Understand How Official Shipping Costs Are Calculated
When importing goods from China to Vietnam through official import channels, knowing how shipping costs are calculated is essential to help businesses:
– Plan financial budgets for each shipment.
– Avoid hidden costs due to lack of transparency from carriers.
– Compare and choose the most suitable shipping package, optimizing business profits.
Official shipping costs are not just the transport fees from China to Vietnam but also include several factors such as: customs clearance fees, import duties, inspection fees, loading/unloading fees, terminal handling charges, and domestic delivery costs…. Without understanding the cost structure, businesses may lose control of cash flow and face difficulties in issuing proper invoices and documents.

2. Formula for Calculating Official Shipping Costs
Total Official Shipping Cost = A. Import/Export Entrustment Fee + B. Base Shipping Fee + C. Import Duty (if any) and VAT + D. Specialized Inspection Fee (if any) + E. Additional Surcharges (if any)
Details of each cost component:
A. Import/Export Entrustment Fee
Consolidated container: 500,000 VND / item
Full container: Depending on product type, contact us for specific quotation
This fee applies when using Viet Trung Company’s entrustment service, so you don’t need to declare under your own business name.
B. Base Shipping Fee
Based on weight (kg) or volume (m³) and the transport route. Below are some reference rates:
Rate Table for Light Goods (per m³)
Rate Table for Heavy Goods (per kg)
Rate Table for Clothing (per kg)
C. Import Duty and VAT
– Import duty: 0–30% depending on product type (our customer service team will provide detailed consultation)
– VAT: 8% (common rate)
– With C/O form E (under ACFTA for Chinese goods), import duty exemption may apply.
D. Specialized Inspection Fees
Applies to goods requiring declarations and testing:
– Children’s toys: 7–8.5 million VND / batch
– Household electronics, food: 6–12 million VND / batch
– Food safety (ATTP): 1,000,000 VND / batch
This fee only applies if your goods fall under mandatory inspection categories.
E. Additional Surcharges (if any)
– China warehouse storage fee: Free for the first 5 days, from the 6th day: 30 RMB/m³/day
– Vietnam warehouse storage fee: Free for the first 2 days, from the 3rd day: 20,000 VND/m³/day
– Heavy cargo lifting fee (≥ 200kg at Pingxiang warehouse): 70–200 RMB depending on package
– Full container unloading fee: Covers all unloading costs at Pingxiang warehouse (except oversized/overweight goods)
Truck type | Volume capacity | Surcharge |
17M | 140 – 145 m³ | 2,000 RMB / truck |
13M | 80 – 85 m³ | 1,500 RMB / truck |
Our commitment: All surcharges are collected according to actual labor costs.
3. Example of Shipping Cost Calculation
You have a 1-ton clothing shipment from Guangzhou to Hanoi, no inspection required, with C/O form E:
– Entrustment fee: 500,000 VND
– Shipping fee: 10,000 VND/kg × 1,000 kg = 10,000,000 VND
– Import duty: 0% (exempt with C/O form E)
– VAT: 8% × shipment value (example: 50 million VND) = 4,000,000 VND
– Total estimated cost: 500,000 + 10,000,000 + 4,000,000 = 14,500,000 VND
4. Compensation Policy
For regular goods (not fragile):
– Case 1: If goods are dented during transport causing internal damage (excluding non-compliant packaging), Viet Trung compensates up to 100% of declared customs value.
– Case 2: If goods arrive intact but internal issues occur, Viet Trung holds no responsibility.
For fragile goods: Customers must ensure proper packaging and notify Viet Trung beforehand. If not notified, Viet Trung is not responsible for damages. If notified and properly packaged, compensation applies (up to 100% of declared value).
– In case of lost packages upon arrival in Vietnam, Viet Trung compensates 100% based on declared customs value.
